That strange noise or warning light? Your car is trying to tell you something. I'm not sure if this is the right flare. So, less than 8 hours after buying it as is, and after driving it 2.5 hours home with no issue, the coolant light came on and it started to randomly overheat. I took it in to the mechanic, they immediately replaced the aftermarket thermostat with an OEM one and replaced the radiator cap. Four days later, I had to have it towed back to them when it overheated again and the light came back on. They kept it for a week but said they were not able to recreate the overheat, despite running 5 tests on it. My husband HATES working on cars though he has an auto mechanics degree from the mid -90s, and from what he could read online, there might be an air bubble trapped in the coolant system somewhere, so he told me what to buy so we could burp it ourselves. Everything we've both read said this particular Jeep needs purple OAT antifreeze/coolant, but when he went to launch everything up in the engine yesterday, the coolant in the reservoir looks orange. And I know you're absolutely not supposed to mix colors. I confirmed with the mechanic who replaced the thermostat about the type and color they had used, and they said the OAT orange that was in it from the factory. But again, everywhere I'm looking, as well as my husband, is saying a 2015 Jeep needs the purple NOT orange, though the orange bottle does say it fits Chrysler from 2013-up So my question is two fold: Could the orange coolant/antifreeze be causing I the random temperature gauge spikes and Which is the correct coolant / antifreeze for this particular model?
